I am very excited to be working on a series I have had my heart set on for a long time. I made my first one over a year ago, titled "Life". It is a vibrant, messy, beautiful mixed media piece that incorporates vintage images, layers of ephemera, decorative paper, paints, charcoals, graphite, and bits of my original work used throughout. It basically tells the story of my life on the canvas. It was a very personal piece, and received a lot of positive response. It was always my intention to create more mixed media "heart stories".
This is one of two that I am working on now. It's called "Sea Song." It went in a bit of a different direction, but I really love it. It tells the story of a New England sailor leaving his love for the sea, a familiar tale for anyone who grew up in this area. I am using vintage ephemera, including images, book pages, playbills, and sheetmusic. I love the feel of this piece. It captures the passion, peace, love and loss... the connection and heartache of land and sea. I am trying to decide on whether or not to incorporate some encaustic elements to it. I LOVE those dreamy effects.
